Senate Set To Confirm Amy Coney Barrett
The U.S. Senate is expected to vote this evening to confirm Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court. NBC's Susan McGinnis reports.
(NBC News) — The U.S. Senate is set for a vote that will likely confirm Judge Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court.
Republicans rushed the confirmation to seat Barrett ahead of a critical challenge to the Affordable Care Act.
She could help cement a conservative majority on the court for years to come and play a key role in rulings ranging from abortion, and gun laws to LGBTQ rights.
Only one Republican, Susan Collins of Maine, has announced a vote against Barrett.
Not one Democrat has expressed support for the nomination.
Instead, they’re venting anger about the fast-track process.
“They may have the votes to put this through, but they don’t have the American people and history on their side,” Senator Richard Blumenthal said.
