(CNN) – With record breaking heat, the summer sun has gotten a lot of attention lately.

But if July’s headlines belonged to the sun, August belongs to the moon.

Big, bright lunar displays will bookend this month as the moon nears its closest point to earth.

When this orbital position coincides with a full moon — it’s called a supermoon.

Supermoons generally look brighter and bigger than other full moons, and this month and there will be two of them.

The first will peak at Tuesday afternoon.

That means people in Europe, the UK, Africa, and the middle east should be able to see the moon at its fullest in the night sky.

In the U.S., your best chance for a glimpse of the supermoon will be after sunset Tuesday, looking toward the southeast.

Then, on Aug. 30, a full moon will appear at the closest point to our planet this year, making it a super blue moon.

A blue moon is a second full moon in a single month.
