UPDATE: missing Franklin man found deceased
SIMPSON COUNTY, Ky. – A missing man has been found deceased and identified as Joseph Cartmill, 41, of Franklin, according to Sergeant John Jackson from Kentucky Fish and Wildlife.
Jackson said Cartmill’s truck was swept away in flood waters while trying to cross Saddler Ford Bridge in Simpson County Tuesday.
Authorities said the truck was found about a mile downstream in the center of the West Forks Drake Creek channel. Only a small portion of the truck’s top could be seen above water by crews searching for Cartmill.
The cause of death has not been released.

SIMPSON COUNTY, Ky. – A search by multiple agencies continues for a man whose vehicle was swept off a bridge.
On Tuesday around 7:53 p.m., the Kentucky State Police dispatch received an emergency call from a subject advising they were in their vehicle and it was being swept off Saddler Ford Bridge in Simpson County, according to a social media post by Simpson County Sheriff’s Office. Contact was lost with the caller shortly after.
Emergency response units responded to the area and conducted an immediate search with no results.
The sheriff’s office was joined by Simpson County Emergency Management, Simpson County Search and Rescue and Kentucky Fish and Wildlife.
The search went on until early morning hours on Wednesday with nothing found, and the search is still ongoing.
One male subject identified as Joseph Cartmill of Franklin has been reported missing and is believed to have been driving a 2013 Ford pick up truck.
