Schools encourage inclusivity for all students regardless of ability

BARREN COUNTY, KY.- As school starts back, counselors are working to make it a positive environment for every student. Especially those with a disability.

We spoke with a counselor at Eastern Elementary where they intentionally include every student regardless of ability in day-to-day activity, and learned the significance of treating everyone with the same amount of kindness because we are all different.

Haley Johnson, a counselor at Eastern Elementary School,  tells us about her experience. She says, “As a parent with a student like that, it’s just full circle for me because as a hope, I hope our parents to see that it’s not just their teachers that love these kids and take care of these kids, but their peers do too. We also want to let those students be as much a part of the general ed class as possible, too.”

As children head back to school, encouraging your students to treat everyone with kindness can and will make the world a little better for all of us.
