School safety improvement project underway for Bristow Elementary School

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – A school safety improvement project is underway near Bristow Elementary School.
The project includes a restricted crossing U-turn for the school, transportation officials say.
This is set to open by the beginning of the school year.
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, District 3 says motorists should be prepared for the school entrance and exit to look and work differently than before.
Those traveling past the school on U.S. 31-W will not experience any road changes, KYTC says. It will only affect those accessing the school.
This includes side roads and entrances on the opposite side of U.S. 31-W from the school.
The project will function similarly to restricted crossing U-turns on U.S. 231 Scottsville Road in Alvaton, as well as those on U.S. 68 Russellville Road at the Southwest Parkway in Warren County, according to KYTC.
Motorists leaving the school who want to turn left onto U.S. 31-W will turn right and continue to the left turn lane on U.S. 31-W to make a U-turn.
KYTC says right and left turns from U.S. 31-W into the school are still allowed.
The school entrance will also be widened as part of this project.
