BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — WKU Softball fell to Louisville 13-4 on Wednesday night at the WKU Softball Complex.
The Hilltoppers (19-7 overall, 3-3 CUSA) put up four runs thanks to a two-run home run from Kennedy Stinson, a sacrifice fly, and a bases-loaded walk, but the Cardinals (21-7 overall, 3-3 ACC) took the win with 13 runs on 14 hits.
LOUISVILLE 13, WKU 4
After a quiet first inning from both squads, Louisville put its first runs on the board with an inside-the-park home run in the top of the second inning.
Stinson cut the Cardinals’ lead in half in the bottom of the third with a two-run shot to centerfield and four batters later, a sacrifice fly from Charlotte Herron brought the Tops within one run.
An RBI single and a three RBI double in the visitor half of the fourth expanded the Cardinals’ lead to five as they finished the inning leading 8-3. In the fifth and seventh innings, Louisville added five more runs with two home runs in each inning.
The Hilltoppers earned their last run of the game with a bases-loaded walk in the fifth.
QUOTABLE
“They hit our mistakes,” said WKU Softball head coach, Amy Tudor. “We left a couple of pitches where we haven’t been, and I feel like they exposed that tonight. Credit to them for hitting the ball so well. I think our walks kind of hurt us a little bit, too. A lot of pitches were also hit when we had the pitcher’s advantage. So, we just need to get better at hitting our spots.”
NOTBALES
  • Six of WKU’s starting nine recorded a hit.
  • WKU’s pitching staff combined for seven strikeouts with Rylan Smith leading with four.
  • Kennedy Stinson led the team with two RBI.
  • Kennedy Stinson’s home run is her fifth and the team’s 32nd.
