Sam Royse Field at John E. Richardson Stadium in Glasgow reopens with Scottie baseball
GLASGOW, Ky. – A local favorite spot is back in Glasgow, as the Scotties took the field against the Logan County Cougars.
John E. Richardson Stadium at Gorin Park caught on fire in the summer of 2022. Field namesake Sam Royse and Glasgow Parks director Eddie Furlong were at that scene from 1 AM that morning to about 9 or 10 PM that same day.
After renovations that took over two and a half years, the stadium reopened for the Scottie season to kick off.
Sam Royse as well as Scottie baseball coach Cameron Garmon and former Hilltopper and Wildcat Matt Bowles were on hand to throw out the ceremonial first pitch, and Sam’s brother, Mayor Henry, had this to say:
“When this fire happened, it took a lot that can’t be replaced. All the effort of a whole bunch of people whose names I’m fixing to read let us preserve the heritage down here. The one most important thing to all of these players out here, past and present, is when you look out on the scoreboard and you see the word home,” he says.
While there aren’t as many bleachers as before, the spirit of Scottie fans still rang out inside a packed stadium for their game against the Cougars.
Logan County took that contest by a score of 1-0, with the only run coming in the second inning.
