Salvation Army in Bowling Green needs donations

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Donations are common during the holidays for many charities, but one in particular is asking for assistance over the summer months.

The Salvation Army is asking for nonperishable food items, money and people willing to volunteer.

“July and August are really difficult because the donations aren’t really coming in all that great,” said Colonel Charles White with the Bowling Green Salvation Army.

The advisory board members want to spread the word requesting funds because this time of the year is difficult for non-profits, they said.

Around 82 percent of every dollar goes towards the needs, advisory board member Robyn Minor said.

The Salvation Army helps to provide temporary shelter for the area’s homeless, free meals, and free clothing for locals in need.

“It’s important to the community because these are your neighbors and my neighbors who deserve to be helped,” said White.

Any contribution, no matter how small, can be taken to the main office on West Main Street in Bowling Green.
