Salvation Army hands out gifts at Greenwood Mall
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Last-minute Christmas shopping is on everyone’s minds, but for some, spending a little extra for Christmas isn’t possible.
The Salvation Army is hard at work though to make sure all kids get what they want this year. At the Dillard’s in the Greenwood Mall, the Salvation Army passed out presents to their kids who were on the Angel Tree. An empty store was transformed into a hub of hustle and bustle and too many boxes of toys to count.
This year, the Salvation Army experienced an increase in children who needed toys, but the community is always up to the task to taking care of the kids who need it most.
“I want to say that the community has definitely come through, so we don’t really have a surplus of any sort of toys. We put the children’s names out on the Angel Tree, and community members take the names and they provide the gifts for the children, and we fill in as needed. So the community really has come through for us this year and and helped even with that increase of need,” Salvation Army Capt. Monica Horton says.
Horton says she cannot thank the volunteers, and donors enough for their time, effort and donations to make these kids Christmases special.
