RV Park proposed for Plum Springs, developers and community respond
PLUM SPRINGS, Ky. – There are talks of creating an RV Park in Plum Springs, Kentucky, but there are a few concerns from the residential community. News 40 spoke to members of that community and those involved with the project.
A recent decision at the City-Council Planning Commission of Warren County might allow an RV Park to be developed near Plum Springs. According to planning commission exhibits, the proposed park could accommodate as many as 35 RVs as well as up to five cabins and an event center.
The 15 acres surround what the developer’s engineer called the largest blue hole east of the Mississippi.
Some citizens of Plum Springs, however, worry the proposal will disrupt the residential community.
Planning commissioner of Plum Springs Megan Ballinger says, “Some of the main concerns would be traffic in the area and then specifically the entrance and exit of the park. It’s right on two really sharp curves that have been known to be dangerous in the past, and so, I know me and a lot of community members have been concerned about that.”
Developers say the unusual nature of the property makes an RV park the best plan.
Chris Davenport, an attorney for Montie Brown, says, “It would make great use of the acreage, give it great utility, given the challenges, the topography, the river, those things that actually will accentuate a campground and make a campground a better use of the property than just sitting there.”
The future land use map that designated the land to be developed into residential was changed in a close five-to-four vote last week to allow the property to be rezoned as commercial, but that will be another vote on another day.
Part of the developments falls within the city limits of Plum Springs, so that part of the development could see yet another vote, this one before the Plum Springs City Commission.
News 40 will continue to follow this story as it develops.
