Russellville Rural Fire Department holds fundraiser for family involved in deadly accident

LOGAN COUNTY, Ky. – One week ago, Russellville Rural Fire Department responded to a tragic scene in the morning hours of Aug. 21 on Franklin Road.

Two vehicles collided head on, leaving two dead and three injured. Two of those injured were young children who experienced very serious injuries and were sent to The Medical Center at Bowling Green and Vanderbilt University Hospital. For the family that has experienced this tragic incident, the road to recovery is a long one.

That is why those at Russellville Rural Fire Department have come up with a way to support the family during this difficult time.

“We got to thinking about it and thought, ‘well, maybe we could help in some way, take some of the pressure off of her by raising some funds to help her.’ You know, with food and gas and just everyday living expenses, not knowing how long that this is going to go on. And probably, she, I would say lost wages, you know, just due to being, having to be there with him. So that’s, that’s our purpose is to to raise money just to help. I mean, I always describe our fire department as we’re just neighbors helping neighbors, and that’s what we do,” said chief of Russellville Rural Fire Department Cheryl Allen.

Allen said that this is just everyday work for them though, as they try to support the community, just as the community has supported them.

“One of my firefighters made the comment, you know, with Russellville Rural, when the lights and sirens go off, the run doesn’t necessarily stop. We try to just keep giving to our community, you know, whether it be a house fire or be a wreck, things of that nature. I’ve got a really great group of people here that love their community and want to help,” Allen said.

If you would like to donate to help the family in their time of need, Allen says you can head to their Facebook page at Russellville Rural Fire Department. For more information, you can click here for their page.
