Russell Sims Aquatic Center opening up this weekend
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The official start to the summer kicks off this weekend, and a family favorite water park is opening back up to the public.
The Russell Sims Aquatic Center will have a new look. The bridge has been replaced, removing the old yellow bridge for a new wooden one that spans the pool. The slides have undergone some work as well, but Bowling Green Parks and Rec is ready to serve the thousands of visitors they’ll see this year.
With the crisp, cool water ready for swimmers, one parks and rec officials says all the hard work in the off-season is now coming to fruition.
“All off season, it’s just a build up, constant work, lots of effort being put towards, you know, getting the Russell Simmons Aquatic Center ready for the community to enjoy it. And, you know, summer’s here. Just, tomorrow we’re going to open the gates to our season pass holders. And on Saturday, open it to the entire community. And we’re just excited, you know, our our opportunity every summer is to love the people that, you know, take part in our programs, come to our facilities, enjoy our parks. And that’s just a really cool opportunity for us,” said recreation division manager Cameron Levis with Bowling Green Parks and Rec.
