Ribbon-cutting celebrates The Fringe

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – There’s a new addition to the Bowling Green community that’s putting safety and fun on the map.

The Fringe, a new bike and pedestrian training area, is officially complete thanks to Bike Walk BG, Warren County Parks and Rec and the City of Bowling Green. Designed like a miniature road system, it allows kids to learn the rules of the road with real-life elements, such as crosswalks and roundabouts.

Natasha Smith, coordinator for Bike Walk BG, says the goal is to teach safety from a young age.

“If we can start early with kids, then that will be ingrained in their heads,” she said.

The hope is that future drivers and riders will grow up with a deep awareness of sharing the road responsibly. In addition to learning, families can take advantage of a new bike co-op where bikes can be repaired or maintained.

With this new resource, Bowling Green takes another step toward a safer, more active community.
