Representative Dottie Sims Memorial Highway dedicated in Hart County
HART COUNTY, Ky. — Family, friends and community leaders gathered Tuesday to honor the life and legacy of former Kentucky State Rep. Dottie Sims as a stretch of Cub Run Highway was officially dedicated as the Representative Dottie Sims Memorial Highway.
The ceremony included the unveiling of new highway signs recognizing Sims’ years of public service and her lasting impact on Hart County and the surrounding region.
Sims represented Kentucky’s 19th House District, serving Hart, Edmonson and Larue counties during two separate terms in the Kentucky House of Representatives. Before serving in Frankfort, she was a member of the Caverna Independent School Board and owned a bookkeeping and tax business.
Hart County Judge/Executive Joe Choate said Sims earned the honor through her determination to fight for her constituents.
“She was a fighter,” Choate said. “She fought for her community tirelessly. She didn’t stop with ‘no.’ She kept going. She fought for the people in Hart County and the surrounding counties.”
Andrew L. Sims, Dottie Sims’ son, said his mother dedicated her life to improving the communities she represented.
“Mom always wanted to do something for the community,” Andrew L. Sims said. “She wanted to make the community better.”
He said she worked to secure improvements ranging from road projects to water infrastructure and advocated for the needs of all three counties she represented.
“She worked for Hart County, Edmonson County and Larue County,” he said. “She worked for all of her counties.”
For Andrew L. Sims, the memorial highway represents more than a roadway—it serves as a permanent reminder of his mother’s commitment to public service.
“She would smile,” he said when asked what his mother would think of the dedication. “She would say, ‘Thank you all.’”
The ceremony concluded with the unveiling of the memorial highway signs along Cub Run Highway, creating a lasting tribute to a woman remembered by family and local leaders as a tireless advocate for her community.
Rep. Dottie Sims died in October 2023 at the age of 74. Her family said they hope everyone who passes the new signs will remember not only the name on the highway but the legacy of service she left behind.
