Man accused of recklessly driving stolen vehicle

ALLEN COUNTY, Ky.  –  At approximately 7:20 pm Thursday evening detectives with the Allen County- Scottsville crime task force attempted to pull over a reckless driver after they determined the vehicle was stolen.  The driver of the vehicle led detectives on a chase before stopping, exiting the vehicle and running away on foot.  K9 units were deployed in the heavily wooded area where an investigation determined the suspect 25-year-old Matthew Thompson of Cave City had gotten a ride back home.

Thompson was located at his home by the Barren County Sheriff’s Department and was taken into custody where he is now being charged with careless driving, operating on a suspended operator license, fleeing or evading police 1st degree (motor vehicle), fleeing or evading police 2nd degree (on Foot), criminal mischief 1st degree, persistent felony offender 1, receiving stolen property, and wanton endangerment 1st degree.
