Portion of Warren County roadway renamed after fallen soldier from Alvaton

BOWLING GREEN, Ky.- A section of KY-1083 in the Rockfield community has a new name.

On Monday, local and state officials renamed a portion of the road in honor of First Lt. Robert Henderson II. The Alvaton native was killed in Iraq in 2004. He was 33 years old.

The new road signs were unveiled during a ceremony at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1298 in Warren County. The signs will be installed in both directions of KY-1083. The signs read: First Lt. Henderson Memorial Highway.

Henderson died after being shot twice when his vehicle came under enemy fire, but he continued to lead the platoon through the ambush to safety. For his bravery, Henderson was awarded the Bronze Star, Purple Heart and Kentucky Distinguished Service Medal.
