NEW DETAILS: Teen dead after being struck by vehicle on Veterans Memorial Lane
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Bowling Green Police Department is investigating a fatal wreck involving a pedestrian near Hickory Street.
According to BGPD, officers responded for a collision at the 300 block of Veterans Memorial Lane on Thursday, Aug. 8.
Police say a vehicle struck a pedestrian in front of the Five Star gas station at Hickory Street.
Life-saving measures were attempted but not successful, police say.
Talan West, 16, was pronounced dead at the scene.
During the investigation, police say they learned West was crossing Veterans Memorial Lane and dropped an item as he crossed. When he ran back to retrieve that item, police say he was hit by the vehicle traveling south.
No impairment was suspected for the driver, and no charges have been filed.
On Friday, the Bowling Green Independent School District confirmed West was a student at Bowling Green High School and would have started his junior year on Tuesday. The district says he was a member of BGHS class of 2026.
The investigation is ongoing.
