Officials say, the man and his wife heard a knock on the door, and then his dogs started barking.

“The victim did say that when he heard the noise, he went back to investigate the noise. He opened the door to let the dogs out and that is when the shot happened,” said Officer Ronnie Ward, Bowling Green Police Department.

The man, Troy Armentrout, was struck by the bullet in his arm continuing through into his side.

Armentrout was taken to an area hospital for treatment where a doctor stated Armentrout’s arm was severely damaged according to the police report.

Neighbors say this incident was surprising.

“Something like this doesn’t really happen this close to home, so it is kind of scary, you know? Not knowing who it is or what their motives behind it all was. It’s just, it’s really terrifying,” said a neighbor.

Police do not have a suspect. If anyone has any information, they are encouraged to contact police.

“We do have a neighbor saying they saw a vehicle leaving the area. Right now, we are not sure if that vehicle had anything to do with it or not,” said Ward.

“We were talking last night about, you know, should we even stay here? They are not even sure who it is. If they don’t know who it is or don’t have a suspect, what if they are still out here,” said a neighbor.

Detectives collected evidence Sunday night and are actively working to identify a suspect.
