Plano Elementary School teaming up with Woodburn community to help family affected by house fire
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Plano and Woodburn communities are coming together to help a family affected by a house fire.
Just before noon on Tuesday, the Woodburn, Plano, Browning and Alvaton Fire Departments responded to North Cedar Bluff Road.
The family living there has a third grade student at Plano Elementary School, as well as a two month old daughter.
Unfortunately, this family lost everything in that fire… and now needs the community’s help to get them back on their feet.
That’s where Plano’s Family Resource Coordinator Emily McQueen is stepping in to help figure out what their biggest needs are.
“Right now, they are looking for just hygiene items, daily use items, probably clothing and shoes. I am happy to accept any donations at Plano Elementary. We are going to have a bin set out in front of our front office, which is actually the back of our school, and we’re happy to accept any kind of donation from the community there,” she says.
McQueen told us she will be speaking to the family Friday to assess what their current needs are, but she believes the community rallying around them is what it’s all about.
“Just knowing that you are loved and knowing that your love from so many people, people that you’ve never met, our school, our staff, our teachers, the custodian stopped me in the hallway today and asked about the family,” she says.
You can drop off donations at the front office of Plano Elementary School or at either Woodburn fire station on Woodburn Allen Springs Road or Nashville Road.
The things they are most in need of are hygiene products like deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrushes, toilet paper, soap, shampoo, baby wipes, formula and diapers.
As far as clothes, the 3rd grade boy wears small pants and shirts, as well as a size 1 shoe.
The two month old wears size 1 diapers, 0-3 months clothing and needs Enfamil Neuro Pro formula.
The mom wears size 10 pants, a large shirt and a size 8 shoe.
The dad wears 34×32 pants, large shirts and a size 10 shoe.
