District 6 magistrate candidates speak at Pie and Coffee Q&A
The Warren County Conservatives hosted an event on Tuesday night at Phil Moore Park intended to give District 6 a chance to get to know their magistrate candidates.
Attendees were served coffee and pie and heard answers to questions posed to each candidate.
“It pretty much just gave. They spent the past several days knocking on doors and talking to constituents in the area, asking them what their genuine concerns and issues were for District Six,” said District 6 Magistrate Candidate Justin Gearlds.
Ron Cummings, District 6 Magistrate Incumbent, also gave his opinion of the event, “Overall, I think what happened was that I think that the intent of everything was good. And I think there was a good crowd and a lot of voters there.”
The organizers saw this as an opportunity to inform the community of the importance of the magistrate position.
“The part that kind of gets lost in is this is not a popularity contest. This is you’re voting for somebody who’s going to help you and have your quality of life issues in place for the next four years,” said Cummings.
Each candidate was given a three-minute opening statement and a minute to answer each question provided.
After it concluded, the takeaway from the event was, “I think they learned that we have got some really good choices, and I think that’s what we’re seeing in Warren County. We’re seeing people that have a love and a passion for this county, and I think that maybe some people that came in here saying, ‘This is the person’ or ‘That is the person’ may not be so sure now,” said District 6 Magistrate Candidate Rod Hutcheson.
