People sent to hospital Thursday from suspicious material leak

GLASGOW, Ky. – Several people were sent to the hospital Thursday night after a suspicious material was leaking from a barrel at a Glasgow store.

The incident occurred at the Rural King on SL Rogers Wells Boulevard around 6:45 p.m.

According to the Glasgow Fire Department, a customer bought the barrel and then returned it after noticing the material coming from it.

When the barrel was returned, some store employees complained of burning throats and eyes, resulting in trips to the hospital.

After investigating, it was determined that the material was a flavoring food additive for human consumption.

Fire units were on scene for four and a half hours.
