Patton named head coach of ACS Lady Patriot basketball

SCOTTSVILLE, Ky. – Thursday afternoon, a new era at Allen County-Scottsville high school began as Josh Patton was named the eighth head coach of Lady Patriot basketball.

“ I’m excited to lead a rich tradition of a program and get the ground running with these girls. I’m excited to coach them,” Patton said.

Patton takes over for longtime leader Garry Dewitt, who retired from his role in April.

He is familiar with the community and the school, having a year under his belt in ACS athletics as an assistant coach under Jeremy Garrett for Patriot boys basketball.

Prior to his time in Scottsville, Patton was head coach of the Webster County Lady Trojans for two seasons (2022-2024) and also an assistant at Madisonville North Hopkins for the Lady Maroons.

ACS finished its most recent season as semifinalists in the 4th Region Tournament with a 22-9 final record.

Patton says he had a lot of opportunities to watch the team last year and their play makes the transition from coaching on the boys’ side an exciting one.

“I’m comfortable on the girls’ side. I truly enjoy coaching girls basketball,” Patton said.

“I feel like it’s fun. Obviously, the game is a lot slower than the boys, where boys are more up-tempo, but I’m comfortable with it, and I’m looking forward to coaching this good group of girls.”

Coming into his first season, Patton will see a revamped roster, losing production from the 2025-26 team, but he’s looking forward to the challenge of continuing to build success from year to year.

“The situation of the program right now, it doesn’t intimidate me. I’m willing to come in and work, hit the ground running, and try to build this thing back up to Lady Patriot Basketball,” Patton said.

“One thing I can guarantee from day one, we’re going to compete and we’re going to compete at a high level. I’m going to put the girls in situations this summer that’s going to force us to do just that. I’m looking forward to it, and we’ll see what happens.”
