Owens and McKeage sign to play football next fall at Campbellsville University
RUSSELLVILLE, Ky. – Monday afternoon out at Russellville High School, two Panther football stars signed the dotted line to play the sport they love next fall at the college level.
First up, lineman David Owens signed to become a Tiger at Campbellsville University following three seasons at RVK, where he racked up 175 tackles, 5.5 sacks, forced five fumbles and recovered two of those.
Owens expressed how much fun he’s had building team chemistry with the rest of the Panther football program, and after having his big day take place in front of friends and family, he spoke on some of his favorite memories and how excited he is to play under head coach Jake Russell at Campbellsville.
“ The times in the locker room, all the fun we had and just having fun at practice in the games this past year,” Owens said. “I’m very excited. Today was a big moment for me because, you know, I’m signing to go to Campbellsville and I’m just ready to go and play.”
And joining Owens over in Campbellsville is Panther multi-sport athlete Octavious ‘Tutu’ McKeage.
McKeage has had his impact shown on the basketball court and even the track, but some of his top moments were seen on the field of Rhea Stadium, where on offense he showcased a triple threat ability to pass, run, and receive the football at a high level, and on defense, the production also was top notch with McKeage amassing 160 tackles, three of which being sacks, and also finding an itch for the turnover bug where he recovered nine fumbles and four interceptions.
After putting pen to paper, McKeage revealed why he chose football over any other sport and how much coach Mikie Benton has helped him become the player he is today.
“ That’s what I grew up playing. First sport, first love for the sport, so I just love football and that’s all I grew up playing,” McKeage said. “I feel like he’s helped me grow and develop in all aspects, physically, mentally, he even is like another father to me. He took me in, you know, he gave me all types of tips and tricks and stuff, so I just really admire Mikey”
