Online career fair seeking veterans for range of industries

SOUTH CENTRAL KENTUCKY – Disabled American Veterans, an organization, will host the Transitioning Service Member and Spouse Virtual Career Fair.

More than 41 employers will be actively seeking veterans and representing a range of industries, from construction to medical to administrative and logistics, offering limitless opportunities from entry level to senior management.

Jeremy Yost, the National Employment director, says,  “There’s a lot of unknowns when they’re transferring out of the military, unfortunately, because we don’t know what’s on the other side. A lot of us wanted to be in the military at a very young age, usually right out of high school. And then we’re going into an employment area where we don’t know how to translate the information that we did in the military into the new roles.”

The obstacles that service members face don’t just impact them, it can also affect their family members, who also make several sacrifices.

He also says, “And unfortunately, due to them working and taking care of the family while that individual is in the military, they don’t get that option. So we work with these companies to get them to understand. Allowing remote positions for these individuals is very beneficial.”

Transitioning from a life you’ve known for years isn’t easy, but resources like the DAV can relieve some of the stress.

Yost also tells us “So it’s very scary for a lot of people. And that’s where we come into play to help them through that process, and we want to make sure that they know that we’re here for them throughout the entire process, and no cost to them for free, so they can be successful in their next career path.”

The virtual career fair will be June 9, and more details can be found on their website.
