NWS Louisville: preliminary findings show EF-0 tornadoes in Butler, Logan counties

BUTLER, LOGAN COUNTIES, Ky. – The National Weather Service Louisville’s preliminary findings indicate both Butler County and Logan County experienced EF-0 tornadoes amid Sunday’s storms.

According to the National Weather Service’s website, preliminary results for Logan County show an EF-0 with a peak wind of 85 miles per hour traveled across 40 yards Sunday night.

The NWS states the tornado started at 9:45 p.m. and ended at 9:46 p.m. CST.

According to the NWS, damage in Logan County was observed in the Jerico neighborhood along Forgy Road, with large trees uprooted or snapped. The tornado then continued along Duncan Ridge Road, where damage was visible with uprooted trees and shingle damage, along with a roof lifted from a storage outbuilding at a home near Deer Lick Road.

In addition, in Butler County, the NWS states preliminary results show an EF-0 with a maximum wind of 80 mph traveled a path of 50 yards Sunday night, starting at 9:59 p.m. and ending at 10:03 p.m. CST.

The NWS states the tornado began in the neighborhood of Turnertown before stopping in Needmore.

Findings show damage along Flat Rock Road, including a roof lifted from a storage outbuilding, damaged mobile homes and broken trees, and Highway 79, the NWS states. In addition, the NWS says a shed was destroyed and “lofted above homes” before landing in a nearby field.

The tornado then crossed Little Muddy Creek toward Richland Church Road, according to the NWS.

No injuries were reported from either incident, according to the NWS.

For an EF-0, the NWS says it measures winds between 65 to 85 mph. These remain preliminary results.
