Nonprofit to match donations for Kentucky Humane Society

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) – The Kentucky Humane Society has gotten a late Christmas present.
WAVE reports that now until midnight on Dec. 31, any donation made to the Kentucky Humane Society will go even further.
That’s thanks to a $30,000 investment from national nonprofit Petco Love.
According to WAVE, the money will be used to triple match donations made to KHS by midnight on New Year’s Eve.
Petco Love will grant $2 for every $1 donated up to $30,000, which will help to provide the shelter with food, toys and vaccinations for the animals in their care.
“We couldn’t do the work here at the Kentucky Humane Society without donations and grants, and those big gifts really do spearhead our work,” Andrea Mattingly with the Kentucky Humane Society says.
That work includes facilitating over 5,000 adoptions annually and looking after over 100 animals at a time.
That number does not include animals in foster homes.
Mattingly says, “…we probably have double that in our foster homes as well, so they’re an extension of our shelter walls, while they might not be here in our shelter walls, we do have a lot more animals that we’re caring for.”
The humane society even cares for animals outside of its area. This includes a German Shepherd from Florida, which Mattingly says resulted from a tornado during Hurricane Milton hitting Furry Friends Rescue.
Mattingly says the dog, named Fiona Apple, has been looking for a forever home ever since then.
Mattingly says any donation makes a world of difference.
If you are not able to donate, you can still help out the Kentucky Humane Society through volunteering to foster or by giving needed supplies, such as towels, blankets or toys.
