New Warren Elementary School holds ribbon cutting before new school year

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – You know what they say: “Out with the old and in with the new.” Well, that couldn’t be more true for Warren County Public Schools, who are celebrating a new beginning for Warren Elementary School.

The old building will be turned into an Early Learners Academy for WCPS, while this new building across I-165 is open to the public for an open house and ribbon cutting.

“Transitioning from the former Warren Elementary to today’s facility. Without a doubt, it will be transformative for not only the opportunities that we’re able to provide our students, but certainly what lies ahead of them in the future,” superintendent Rob Clayton says.

The new school is headed by a former principal who returned to the helm last summer, and he’s excited to lead the Dragons into their new building.

“It’s just something that… for some reason I just keep running back to because I love this place, this new place. I just… I love the old one, but I love the new one, and I love our kids. I love who we are districted for, and I think that all of those teachers that you’ve seen in front of you, they have a heart for those students,” Josh Porter says.

One of the cool new features is that the gym doubles as a storm shelter, which can be a great thing for a hard hit part of the community.

“You’re standing in a storm shelter, not only for Warren County Schools and Warren Elementary, but for the community as well… and so they will have access to this facility in the event of a tornado or another weather emergency… and so we’re proud to be in a position where we can support our community outside of our students in that respect,” Clayton says.

The most important thing is setting the students up for success in their future as Warren Central Dragons.

“We want to give them everything that they need to be successful because we hope that the kids that are going to be walking through our doors are going to take your spots in the next 20, 30, 40 years. We hope that they’re going to be the leadership, students and leaders of our community… and so that’s what we are aiming for, and that’s what we strive for each day. So thank you for giving us that,” Porter says.
