New tool available for dispatchers allows videos to be sent via 911

GLASGOW, KY.- As technology continues to advance, dispatch offices are adding a new service to their system. The 911 Metcalfe- Barren Emergency Operations is adding the prepared assist service that uses video.

Whether you are lost or in a domestic violence situation no matter what your circumstances are when you call 9-1-1, you will be offered a link that is texted to you. You can show dispatchers what your situation looks like. This can help limit misunderstandings and create clear communication with the officers.

April Dunbar, the Assistant Director of Metcalfe-Barren Emergency Operations tells us how this benefits everyone who uses this service. She says, “It’s easier if they can show us what’s going on instead of having to describe what’s going on or, you know, when they call 911, everybody’s different. Some people can tell you exactly what’s going on. Other people just get tunnel vision and they don’t really see everything that’s going on maybe.”

Prepared assistance is available now for anyone in need of help when you call 911. If you click the link that will be texted to your phone, it will give the dispatch office the ability to see what is going on, and you have the power to stop showing video and only send text.
