New senior center opens in Cave City to serve local residents
CAVE CITY, Ky. – A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held Friday morning for a new senior center aimed at serving older adults in the community.
The facility, located at 105 Duke St., was created to provide a renovated, dedicated space for residents ages 60 and older to access meals, activities and social opportunities.
Officials say the center is designed to help combat isolation by giving seniors a place to stay active and engaged. The space includes a gathering area and a full kitchen for meals and programming.
“There’s a great population here that really would benefit from some social interaction together,” said Hollie Smith, assistant director of aging services for the Barren River Area Development District. “Making sure they’re getting out of their homes and staying involved with the community.”
Smith said the center will be open Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, offering opportunities for seniors to share meals and participate in activities.
“They can come in and eat a meal together, maybe do some puzzles, have some fun and dance together,” Smith said. “They should definitely come check it out.”
