National Watermelon Day

HART COUNTY, Ky. – Aug. 3 is National Watermelon Day in the U.S. and just a few miles off U.S. 31-W is a family farm with generations of history.

Dennison’s Roadside Market is a family owned store with almost 400 acres in its backyard. Owned by Kathy and Paul Dennison, it has been operational for nearly 30 years and yields an assortment of crops. Youngest son Matthew told News 40 that just with the 3 acres of watermelons they’ve grown this season, they were able to harvest “between 3 and 4,000 watermelons this year so far”.

Dennison’s Roadside Market sells all kinds of items; in addition to their produce, they offer baked goods, meats, handmade baskets and cleaning supplies just to name a few.
