UPDATE: Name released following drowning death at Barren River
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Authorities have released further details surrounding a drowning death over the weekend at Barren River.
Bowling Green Police Department public information officer Ronnie Ward confirmed a man was pulled from the water on Saturday at Weldon Peete Park.
The Warren County Coroner’s Office identified the man as Thomas Lee Gravil, 58.
According to a report released Monday afternoon, police state they responded to 1708 River Street for a possible drowning in progress.
Upon arrival, police state Bowling Green Fire Department personnel and EMS were performing CPR on the victim. Police state witnesses told them that Gravil had attempted to load his boat into a trailer when slipped away, and he was unable to retrieve it.
Bystanders pulled Gravil from the water and contacted emergency services, the release states.
Police say this case is open for further investigation.
