Myers signs undrafted free agent deal with Toronto Blue Jays

TORONTO – 20 rounds and 615 picks later, the 2025 MLB Draft came to a close, but for one former Bowling Green Purple pitcher, the dream of playing pro baseball didn’t end there.

From playing little league for Bowling Green East to graduating as a Purple in 2021, Carson Myers’ baseball journey was fully rooted in Warren County.

He has spent the past four years in college, with time split between the University of Alabama at Birmingham and Auburn University, and following his senior season as a Tiger, the left-hander signed as a free agent with the Toronto Blue Jays.

Myers said he was fielding calls throughout the draft from several teams but was able to finalize a clearer path to the pros after the end of Round 20.

Throwing 200 innings and striking out 200 batters in college gave Myers the experience he needed to play at the next level, and he shared the reactions after seeing that moment come to life.

“ I still haven’t really put my feet on the ground yet. It’s definitely super surreal. It’s a dream that I’ve had since I was a little kid,” Myers said. “It’s been a super stressful last couple of days, but I’m glad I got the opportunity from the Blue Jays. Once I got the opportunity, I think it all came through and some tears were shed on my mom’s and my dad’s side. Just being able to hug them and enjoy the moment with them was pretty special.”

Myers shared that he has to learn some French before travelling to Canada, but he’s excited for the opportunity.

Moving from a smaller town in Bowling Green to Birmingham as a college freshman gave Myers a taste of how to adapt to new scenery, and now he will get an even newer look going from one country to another.

His journey through the minor leagues will begin soon, as Myers is set to head to the team’s spring training complex on Wednesday, but before he gets to work, he gave props to the Bowling Green community for helping him get this far.

“ I just know that Coach Isenberg and just the people in the community at Bowling Green want you to be your best, so they’re always pushing you and I think it’s a factor that helps you be your best,” Myers said. “It just says something about the Bowling Green community as a whole.”
