Mother suffers fatal gunshot wound during domestic altercation with son in Pike County
PIKEVILLE, Ky. – Kentucky State Police says it received a call on Monday to a domestic disturbance in Pikeville.
Troopers and investigators arrived at a residence on Old Wagner Station Road and attempted to contact individuals inside the residence.
One of the men inside the residence made threats towards law enforcement. The KSP Special Response team was activated.
Negotiations with the man lasted several hours before the man, Alex Yuhas, 59 of Pikeville, was apprehended.
KSP says the initial investigation shows an altercation took place between Yuhas and his mother Paulette Mullins, 75 of Pikeville.
The altercation led to Mullins suffering a fatal gunshot wound.
The Pike County Coroner’s Office pronounced Mullins dead at the scene. Mullins’ body was transported to the State Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy.
Yuhas is charged with Murder-Domestic Violence, Terroristic Threatening, and Assault 3rd Degree. Yuhas is lodged in the Pike County Detention Center.
The investigation is ongoing.
