METCALFE COUNTY, Ky. – The superintendent of Metcalfe County Schools shared a statement Friday afternoon following recent safety concerns regarding area schools.

Superintendent Josh Hurt stated, “As a dad with two students here in Metcalfe County Schools, I want to tell you that every single child, every single student, yours, mine, every single one are our highest priority. As are our staff, our teachers, our guests, our community members. We want to make sure that everybody’s safe at Metcalfe County Schools. Today, we had a situation in a neighboring district where there was a rumor circulating. We went into soft lockdown. Also had time to work with law enforcement from the neighboring district to make sure that Metcalfe County was no part of the situation. In a few minutes, we found out we were in fact not part of the situation and at no time was Metcalfe County Schools threatened, and so at that time we released from soft lockdown.”

Hurt thanks the student resource officers and law enforcement administration for working to provide information.

He further stated if there is a lockdown, school officials will communicate this.
