Meguiar reflects on record-breaking career at Georgia Gwinnett College
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – A year ago, we brought you the story of one former Logan County High School baseball star who was named player of the week in a prominent summer ball league, and today we take a look back on his record-filled college career.
Braxton Meguiar traded his Cougar jersey out for a Wabash Valley Warriors one, but just for a season, as he made the move to Georgia Gwinnett College afterwards, and there he would spend four years playing the game as a Grizzly.
Once he took the field for his first game in 2022, it was nearly impossible to take him off the diamond, as he started in all but two of the team’s games.
That dedication led to positive production, and now that Meguiar’s time is up in Lawrenceville, he leaves a lasting impact on the program.
Over his career with the Grizzlies, he holds 8 program records, and back on April 18, he surpassed an NAIA mark that had held strong for 20 seasons.
Finishing with 334 career runs scored is a league-wide achievement, and for someone who plays the game with his head down and hard at work, Meguiar was surprised in that moment.
“ They said it over the PA at the game that I had broken the all-time NAIA scoring record and I had no idea, man, like it was truly an honor,” said Meguiar. “When you find a way on base for your guys, they’ll find a way to score you, and that was always my mentality. In the end, I just happened to get the most out of everybody, which is really cool.”
Now that Meguiar’s college baseball chapter has come to a close, he is actively pursuing a professional career.
He credited his father and longtime Logan County head coach Ethan Meguiar for teaching him to play the game the right way, and Braxton himself is anticipating the day where he can fill in the footsteps set by his dad.
For now, though, his eyes are locked in on prolonging his time as a player, wherever that next team may be.
“ I’m not ready to give up this game yet. I feel like I still have some things to give to this game, playing wise. I know that one day I would love to coach and I’m going to give back to the game in that way, but I’m not ready for my playing days to be over yet,” said Meguiar. “[I’m] just staying ready, staying in shape, just keeping the phone on ringer, that way as soon as I get a call, I’m ready to go.”
