Med Center at Caverna celebrates new surgical suite, expanding access to rural Kentucky
HORSE CAVE, Ky. – Surgery hasn’t been performed in the area for around 20 years, according to Dr. Tracy Scott of Med Center Health.
The Medical Center at Caverna is celebrating a $2.2 million renovation to expand surgical services for the community.
The newly renovated Charles S. Caldwell Surgical Suite will help support patients of Barren, Hart and surrounding counties.
A donation of $500,000 was made by Janet Leonard and an additional $250,000 of funding was secured with the help of Rep. Brett Guthrie.
This expansion is expected to help people have better access to health care.
“They don’t have to travel. So we’re much more likely, especially with screening and preventive, procedures, we’re able to get that done closer to home. And that ensures us that we’re going to be able to get those patients the care they need, and it won’t be missed.”
Health officials say they expect to add more types of surgical procedures to this location in the coming months, and this type of access is so important in the more rural areas of the Commonwealth, especially for our seniors.
