March is Colon Cancer Awareness Month

WARREN COUNTY, Ky.- March is Colon Cancer Awareness month. Kentucky is number one in colon cancer incidents, and number four in mortality.

Colon cancer can be caused by consuming foods that aren’t good for gut health, but preventing colon cancer starts with knowing your body, recognizing the symptoms and getting your colon screened to save your life.

Avinash Bhakta, M.D. Colorectal surgeon, University of Kentucky, says, “Catching it early is our best way of saving your life forever and for you not ever dying of colon cancer, it is very treatable. It is preventative as what we can prevent it with appropriate screening as well.”

Colon cancer and its symptoms may not be a common conversation but sharing this information with your doctor if you are facing some of the symptoms could aid in stopping the growth of colon cancer.
