Man charged with fleeing police in Bowling Green

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – One man is facing multiple charges after authorities say he led a pursuit through Bowling Green on Saturday.

According to a uniform citation, the Kentucky State Police observed a pickup truck speeding at 101 miles per hour near the 28-mile marker southbound of Interstate 65.

The citation says a trooper motioned for the driver to pull over and attempted a traffic stop.

However, authorities say the driver continued driving recklessly.

Troopers say the vehicle then exited I-65 and entered Interstate 165 northbound before stopping at the one-mile marker.

Authorities say they conducted a felony stop and detained the driver, identified as 36-year-old Justin Heil of Louisville.

In addition, troopers say Heil’s son was in the vehicle.

Authorities say Heil stated he had been drinking from a liquor bottle found in the vehicle. According to the citation, troopers also located several items of drug paraphernalia.

Heil additionally stated he believed he had last used methamphetamine that morning, authorities say.

Heil was transported to TriStar Greenview Regional Hospital for medical clearance and a blood draw before being taken to the Warren County Regional Jail.

He remains incarcerated on charges of speeding 26 mph or greater over the speed limit, reckless driving, first-degree fleeing or evading police (motor vehicle), first-degree wanton endangerment, operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol/substance, first offense, possession of open alcoholic beverage container in motor vehicle prohibited, drug paraphernalia – buy/possess, first-degree wanton endangerment of a police officer and operating on a suspended or revoked operators license.
