Man attacks Glasgow Papa Johns employees with hammer, police say

GLASGOW, Ky. – A Russell County man faces charges after allegedly assaulting employees of a Barren County business with a hammer.
According to a uniform citation, the Glasgow Police Department responded to Papa Johns on Happy Valley Road to a report of an assault on Saturday evening.
Officers were told that employees had been attacked with a hammer and that the suspected attacker, 24-year-old Aaron Kelly, of Russell Springs, was being restrained by employees.
Following an investigation, officers say Kelly entered the business from the back door and began assaulting employees.
Employees then began to defend themselves against the assault. One employee struck Kelly and subdued him, according to the citation.
Several employees sustained injuries during the attack.
Officers say the hammer used in the alleged assaults was located in Kelly’s possession.
A woman later told police that Kelly had approached her vehicle before the assault, asking for cigarettes and a gun. Kelly then took the hammer from the vehicle, according to the citation.
Officers say Kelly showed signs of being under the influence of a substance.
Kelly was arrested after being medically cleared and lodged at the Barren County Detention Center.
Kelly is charged with public intoxication-controlled substance (excludes alcohol), theft by unlawful taking or disposition of contents from a vehicle and first-degree assault.
The investigation is ongoing.
