Man accused of assaulting girlfriend inside Bowling Green motel room

BOWLING GREEN, Ky.- A Metcalfe County man is accused of assaulting his girlfriend inside of a Bowling Green motel room.
The incident occurred Saturday at the Country Hearth Inn on Corvette Drive.
According to the female victim, Charles Newman, 21, of Edmonton, dragged her to the ground and began choking her. According to an arrest citation, the woman was able to free herself by using a pressure point to Newman’s neck. The victim then attempted to leave the room, but Newman would not let her ago, according to the citation.
When police arrived on the scene, they spoke with Newman who said he had no recollection of the altercation. The citation states Newman told police that he blacked out after smoking what he described as a “half joint” he discovered underneath a bed in the room.
Newman was taken to the Medical Center at Bowling Green for treatment and then to jail.
He’s charged with several offenses, including first-degree strangulation, first-degree unlawful imprisonment and fourth-degree assault-domestic violence.
Newman is being held on a $7,500 bond.
