MADISONVILLE, Ky. – A Madisonville man is behind bars after allegedly fleeing police on a dirt bike.

According to a uniform citation, on Tuesday, the Madisonville Police Department observed a dirt bike at a Hucks on South Main Street.

Police say the operator, 52-year-old Robert Keown of Madisonville, left on the dirt bike with no headlights or tail lights.

When police attempted a traffic stop, they say Keown sped up.

Keown then turned onto West Jagoe Street before leaving the road and crossing into a yard and reaching railroad tracks, authorities say.

Police say they then ran after Keown, who rode into a ditch, dropped the dirt bike and surrendered.

Keown was taken into custody and arrested.

Authorities say they discovered Keown was wanted on a warrant. He was transported to the Hopkins County Detention Center.

Keown faces charges of no registration plates, no tail lamps, failure to illuminate head lamps, all terrain vehicle violations, no operators moped license, second-degree fleeing or evading police (motor vehicle) and third-degree fleeing or evading police.
