Lt. Gov. Coleman, chamber cut ribbon on new Metcalfe County food bank

EDMONTON, Ky. – A new facility in Metcalfe County will help the food-insecure.

The Edmonton-Metcalfe County Chamber of Commerce cut the ribbon for a new food pantry at the George K. Bowling Community Park today. Kentucky Lieutenant Governor Jacqueline Coleman celebrated the opening of the new building that will expand the services offered.

“Places like this, this food bank is critical for helping people to get on their feet. It is the perfect way for a community to meet people where they are and help them to get to where they want to be,” said Coleman.

“Metcalfe County is not that unique in that we need this big food pantry. Other counties need the same thing. They just don’t have it,” said Lisa Boswell, Executive Director of George K. Bowling Community Park.

A grant of almost a million dollars paid for the new facility, which offers more than the average food bank. Cold storage allows the pantry to provide meat, eggs, and milk. The building also houses adult education classes. They serve a variety of needs, including students during the gap between meals at school and the summer feeding programs.

Seniors, including farm widows who receive less Social Security, will also receive support.

The Metcalfe County Food Bank is located at 1608 Bowling St. in Edmonton.
