Logan County’s animal welfare continues improvement
LOGAN COUNTY, Ky. – Two different organizations are introducing and reintroducing themselves to the community this year to better help the four-legged residents of Logan County.
Newly formed nonprofit Spayed and Aid of Kentucky just received their incorporation back in early January and are hitting the ground running with several events scheduled for the coming weeks and just finishing their first distribution in February. The organization is just two women so far, looking to help pets owners by offering a free food pantry and offering free spay and neuter procedures.
Amanda Castile and Karen Kirsch told News 40, “By offering free food and free spay and neuter, hopefully it can free up money for pet owners to worry about other things like vaccines.”
According to the nonprofit, many owners give up their pets due simply to the high cost of dog and cat food. Castile also said in their interview with the station that “you can’t adopt your way out of overpopulation. The only way to control the population is to get them fixed.”
The Logan County Animal Shelter is moving into some improvements to their operations as well, trying to correct policies and procedures for how the facility is being run. The county officially took over on March 1 with the building now completely void of Logan County Humane Society activities and is working to rebrand the shelter and improve its reputation.
The newest information for both organizations can be found on their Facebook pages at and .
As of right now, the following is planned in the near future:
On Thursday, March 21, an informational meeting will take place at 5:30 p.m. at the Logan County Public Library.
In addition, a fundraiser event on Saturday, March 16 will take place starting at 11 a.m. at the First Southern National Bank with Wrap n’ Roll.
You can also visit a bake sale in front of the Blue Rooster at 11 a.m. on March 23, located next to Piggly Wiggly.
