Logan County woman uses her baking skills to serve others through nonprofits
LOGAN COUNTY, Ky. – One Logan County woman uses her baking skills to serve others by donating her deserts to nonprofit organizations.
“I’ve always had a heart for baking,” said Susan Price, a local Logan County baker. She has been baking since she was 11 years old.
“My mother was a good baker, my grandmother, my mother-in-law, and I wanted to follow in their footsteps,” she said.
Cakes, biscuits, bread, pies and more are all on the menu. Price said she started whisking the dough when her sons left, and she needed to fill a void every mother can have of nurturing someone else.
“The love for baking came when our kids went to college, and I got the emptiness syndrome really bad,” she said.
She began to pour into others with her talent. Price uses her baking to support nonprofits. She said what started as a Christmas fundraiser turned her cakes into a financial safety net for those in need.
“I just couldn’t believe the amount people were paying for just a homemade cake,” Price said.
From Dream Riders Therapeutic Riding, Best Friends Animal Rescue and more, Price said the outpour she received back to support her cause fueled her heart even more.
“It’s not just me, it’s the whole community really,” Price said.
She gives thanks to God for the gift that made way for not just her but others too.
“I just found out that’s how God could use me. He keeps me going. It’s my daily prayer that this baking be for his glory, not mine but for his,” she said.
