Locals Celebrate Cinco De Mayo

BOWLING GREEN, Ky.-Today is Cinco de Mayo…meaning the busiest day of the year for Mexican restaurants!

It’s the first time in three years that restaurants won’t have restrictions due to the pandemic.

El Mazatlan in Bowling Green said it’s all hands on deck. They offer special deals for Cinco De Mayo and say they expect to get over 4,000 food orders.

People might think Cinco de Mayo celebrates Mexican Independence Day, but it actually celebrates Mexico’s battle victory over the French in 1862. Regardless, staff at El Maz said it’s a day to celebrate!

“I think Cinco de Mayo for us is something different, something special. It’s the busiest day of the year, out of all the years,” said an El Mazatlan employee.

Staff said they’re lucky they no longer are facing supply chain issues. A few weeks ago there was a shortage of avocados!
