Local therapist warns against road rage

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – After a recent incident with road rage and a firearm in Glasgow, a local therapist is speaking on anger management and how to best handle a road rage situation.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 94% of all traffic accidents are caused by driver error.

Of those accidents, 33% could be linked to behaviors typically assigned to road rage.

The NHTSA also explains the distinction between aggressive driving, a traffic violation and road rage, aside from the yelling and rude gestures, is a criminal offense

Mental health struggles such as anger management can lead to road rage.

“Mental health is not a stigma, it shouldn’t be at least, it’s to help all of us, because we all go through challenges and anxieties and frustrations and relationships at home, at work and everywhere and seeking help is not something we should look at from a negative perspective. We should appreciate and embrace that we are humans and we need help too,” said Daniel Boamah, a licensed clinical social worker at KY STEPs Behavior Health Services.

And sometimes, you might just be having a bad day, but take a minute to analyze the situation before you react.

SafeMotorist.com indicates that 66% of recent traffic fatalities can be linked to aggressive driving. More disturbingly, 37% of those fatalities were found to be caused by a firearm, rather than a typical accident.
