Local summer feeding programs
SOUTH CENTRAL KENTUCKY – “We’re really proud of the fact that we’re able to provide this service to our community. it’s free to any child, 18 or under, whether they go to a warren county school or not” said Kelly Holt, Warren County Public Schools’ Director of Nutrition and Dining.
Warren County Public Schools have been doing this a long time, and they’re just hoping they can help out as many families as possible with food costs higher than they’ve been in recent years. The program offers free nutritious food to the kids in the community to make sure they’re still eating right over the summer.
Barren County is in the midst of their program as well, and they’ve just added bulk meal pick up in addition to the meal delivery and congregate locations.
The bulk option takes some of the stress off more rural families who it might take a minute to get into town, so the district is offering bags of food consisting of 10 meals at schools further out in the district.
When looking at the volume of food the districts are providing, thousands of bags, boxes or whatever have you are moving every week which makes for a great opportunity for children who may face food insecurity.
Both counties offer different options when it comes to eating so for bus routes, pick up locations and menus, you can check the official website for Barren and Warren County schools or review their Facebook pages.
