Local sober home helps women in recovery
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – A local faith-based sober living home, Pita’s Place, has received its official certification from the Kentucky Alliance Recovery Residences organization.
Pita’s Place, located in Bowling Green, is a level two recovery residence center. They focus on providing structured sober living with increase independence while using a faith-based approach.
Women learn about life skills, finances and other basic necessities of clean living. The home also offers therapy referrals and access to spiritual mentorship through local churches. The founder is using her personal experiences to help women in recovery.
Toya Carpenter, CEO of Pita’s Place, turned her “pain into some purpose.” Carpenter says that she established the sober home in hopes that her mother will one day become sober. She adds that she wants women to feel they can “grow and bloom” at Pita’s Place.
Carpenter is hopeful that sharing her story will inspire others. Some believe that establishing Pita’s Place will help Carpenter on her own journey of peace.
The home currently has space for seven women from all backgrounds. Pita’s Place is accepting monetary and item donations.
