Local sexual trauma recovery center speaks out against sexual assault
GLASGOW, Ky. – Glasgow police arrested a man on a rape charge after the alleged victim told authorities she passed out and he continued to have intercourse with her.
Police said Dedontae Morrison admitted in an interview with Glasgow police that while having intercourse, the alleged victim had become unconscious, but he continued.
Morrison is charged with first-degree rape where the victim is incapable of consent or physically helpless. He is also charged with possession of methamphetamine and theft by unlawful taking.
Hope Harbor, a local sexual trauma recovery center, is reminding the public what it means to have consent.
Alayna Milby said there are three parts of consent: it has to be freely given, fully understood and can be revoked at any time.
“If you agreed to let someone borrow your phone to call their mom or call a friend two days ago, you wouldn’t expect them to come into your room in the middle of the night to steal your phone. Everyone would understand that that is wrong, but we make a lot of excuses when it comes to sex and sexual violence,” Milby said.
Dedontae Morrison is lodged in the Barren County jail and is being held on a $30,000 bond.
