Local nonprofit helps fill in the gaps to support Warren County Sheriff’s Office

WARREN COUNTY, Ky. – Working in law enforcement is tough. From dealing with violent offenders to comforting victims, law enforcement needs all of the support it can get, and one organization is doing just that.

The Warren County Sheriff’s Foundation has been around for three years and has made it its mission to support the sheriff’s office however it needs it.

“There are times when there are funds needed for things that are not provided in the budget. Now, the budget is very generous, the community of Warren County and the taxpayers of Warren County are absolutely stepping up and providing what the sheriff’s office needs. But occasionally there is shortfalls. And so that’s what we’re here for,” said Sarah Jane Zink, president and volunteer for the sheriff’s foundation.

In its efforts, the foundation has provided many benefits to the sheriff’s office, including purchasing equipment to help train deputies for some of the most critical situations.

“The foundation has helped step in on a few different ways. It has helped purchased a virtual reality system that helps train our deputies, before we get to that real encounter. So it helps us, you know, be more safe when it comes down to the real thing,” said Brian Kitchens, operations commander for the Warren County Sheriffs Office.

Even though the foundation has only been around for three years, it has already seen incredible support from the community for the sheriff’s office.

“There are so many people that reach out to compliment the sheriff’s office. So we do have a lot of support here. It is hard to see that, nationally, it’s not the same everywhere. But I do think that it’s it’s such an important task to ensure that the public knows that deputies are people, too,” said Casey Miciotto, the executive assistant for sheriff Brett Hightower and board member for the sheriff’s foundation.

The sheriff’s foundation is planning more events all throughout the year, including a 5K and Teddy bears for purchase to help young children in very stressful situations. If you would like to learn more about the foundation, you can click here.
